🎭 New Members Auditions – Friday 2nd October 2026

Do you love singing, dancing and acting? Or perhaps you’ve always fancied giving musical theatre a try?

Then we’d love to hear from you!

Act One Youth Musical Theatre is holding auditions for new members on Friday 2nd October 2026, starting at 6.00pm.

🌟 Who are Act One?

Act One is an independent young people’s musical theatre group, established in 1996, for young people in school years 6–13 (approximately ages 10–18).

We perform two shows each year: a major musical in May at Iveshead Academy in Shepshed, and a staged concert of musical theatre and pop songs in October.

Our productions are varied, with previous shows including Fame, Grease, Oklahoma!, Aladdin and Les Misérables: School Edition.

🎶 What happens at the audition?

As a musical theatre group, we want to see what you can do across both singing and dancing.

For the singing audition, candidates will be sent lyrics and a backing track for up to four songs before the audition. You simply choose one song that you like best and prepare it to perform individually for the production committee.

You’ll also learn a short dance routine set by one of our choreographers. You’ll learn this alongside existing Act One members before performing it individually or in a small group.

Don't worry if auditions sound daunting — our members and leaders will be around on the evening and will be happy to answer questions and help you feel at home.

🎭 What is life at Act One like?

Rehearsals take place every Friday evening from 6.30pm–9.30pm, including during school holidays, at Christchurch Methodist Church, Field Street, Shepshed, LE12 9AL. Extra rehearsals are often arranged as we get closer to a show.

Being part of Act One is about more than performing. We expect our members to be committed to the group and to attend rehearsals regularly, as everyone plays an important part in our productions.

💷 How much does it cost?

Our current annual membership fee is £85, which also covers the majority of costumes. There may also be a £25 show fee, alongside a small £2 weekly rehearsal subscription to cover the cost of the rehearsal room. Members are also required to purchase the Act One uniform and provide their own dance shoes.

❤️ Thinking of auditioning?

We know that auditioning for a new group can feel a little scary, so if you have any questions at all, please get in touch. We’re more than happy to offer advice or talk through what to expect.

If you’d like to come along, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing [email protected] or calling 07904 303488. We’ll need a parent/carer telephone number and email address, as well as the candidate’s date of birth.
