About Us

ACT One is an amateur musical theatre group based in Shepshed, near Loughborough, Leicestershire. We are an independent youth theatre, catering for local young people and their interest in musical theatre.

We rehearse every Friday night at Christchurch Methodist Church in Shepshed, and perform two productions a year, usually at The Iveshead Theatre, Shepshed: this will include a major musical and a fully staged concert, both having live orchestras or bands.

We are always looking for new talent, but unfortunately we have to limit the size and makeup of the group. In order to do this we ask every potential member to audition to join us. If you are interested in joining us and are in school years 6-13 (that’s roughly 10 -18 years old!) then please contact us for the details of our next audition. These are usually held twice a year on or around the time of our shows, and will involve both singing and dancing because that’s what we do! Full details available on request.

As well as providing the opportunity to perform on stage, ACT One inspires and builds confidence not only on stage, but also in life itself. In fact we already have several ex-members attending performing arts colleges and indeed some of them have also entered the profession, some doing extremely well. Many of our members have also gone on to perform with a host of local adult groups.

We are a close group, we make every effort to support each other and make every rehearsal a fun experience; the group is split into four “houses” named after West End Theatres, namely Duke Of York, Dominion, Phoenix and Drury Lane, and these compete against each other for fun and to win a trophy!

Each house also has a leader/cast representative to help bring ideas from the cast to the committee.

Please note that all our trustees & leaders have been DBS-checked with regard to their involvement with children & all members need to obtain a children’s performance licence from the local authority if they are in years 6-11.
